Why Reiki

Reiki is generally described as an energy healing system,re-discovered in the early 1900's by Japanese scholar Mikao Usui.

Even at the beginning, there's nothing required from a person who wants to become a Reiki student and train to eventually become a Master. Anybody who believes in the Reiki concept and is willing to open his eyes, mind, and spirit to the Universal Life Energy can become a Reiki Master.

However, before one can earn that title, he or she has to go through the process of Reiki attunement. This means that gradually, a student will be shown all the Reiki symbols and their uses, and how they are supposed to be used in a Reiki therapy session.

There are three general levels in Reiki training and they are merely referred to as Level I, Level II, and Level III training stages.

Level I is the introduction to Reiki. After completing it, the student will become a practitioner. He or she will be able to heal their own self or others. This is the basic training ground for people who want to learn Reiki and use it for personal improvement.

Level II Reiki is the advanced practitioner training phase. This one is for people who wish to use Reiki on a more professional level. As such, those who are able to finish this level can practically advertise their services and provide Reiki healing to other people who may require it.

Level III is the highest of all Reiki training sessions. It is where one will be molded to become a Reiki Master. As a Reiki master, you will be able to heal, train, and influence yourself and other people through the absolute powers of Reiki.
The completion of these levels is considered an achievement. As such, certificates are usually given out whenever a student finishes a certain level. However, there is yet to be a governing body that would provide Reiki licenses to practitioners. On the other hand, certificates are provided by the Reiki Master who had personally trained the student.
Right now, there are many Reiki institutions where you can enroll at. Each of these institutions follows their own set of certification levels. There is yet a group or association that would standardize the Reiki certification process so that people can understand better the expertise of the Master that they are consulting with.

Reiki is an art that cannot be self-taught. While self-attunement is generally accepted, it is still impossible to simply learn Reiki on your own without any direct guidance from a certified Reiki Master. The specific techniques involved in Reiki healing need to be inculcated in an aspiring student for it to be carried out correctly and effectively on a patient.
Generally speaking, only a Reiki Master can certify a Reiki student. However, there are different types of Reiki Masters. There are Reiki Masters that are shown the Master symbol but are not rigidly trained to conduct attunement or training.
Therefore, before you go undergo Reiki training, you have to know the expertise level, lineage, and certification of your teacher. They have to reach the Master / Teacher level so you will be rightfully trained.
